September 21, 2015 post

We spent the day playing, lounging & cleaning up after a long weekend with daddy & the beach. So little work was accomplished today with reading & writing.
Activity: sand letters
We started with sand letters & I added the element of writing on the chalkboard. A small one. We start with a sand letter & the kids trace over the tile with their finger. Then they immediately write the letter in the sand. This provides tactile feedback & helps them to remember the strokes. They are using regular lettering to write in the sand to start with. I’ve added the element of a whiteboard where I then write the cursive letter (same) & after the sound is given (recalled by student) we write it in the sand as well. Yesterday we additionally wrote it on a small handheld chalkboard to practice pencil grip.
