We changed it up and started the day with the chalkboard and Association method work. Starting with phonemes and matching cards to board. Then we moved on to picture drawing and matching words. We do Once upon a time stories and select words to use in the story to then practice reading and writing. Some steps are missing in the pics as I was working with the kiddos to advance progress while they were into it. After telling the story I write the words (or during) on the board. I then write the word in a slip of paper and set those up on a flip book stand. The kiddos are given a word they find it and match it to picture. Right now the words are written on the board to increase success and retain interest.
After matching on the board we sit down and practice handwriting the word at the desks.
